Great Art: Thundarr the Barbarian by Matt Smith

Before He-Man, there was Thundarr. Ookla the Mok was my preferred Chewie as a kid, while I am pretty sure four year old Nick had something of a crush on Ariel. But I loved the concept of the dark future that pervaded Thundarr the Barbarian and the mix of technology, magic and fantasy that made the show unique on Saturday morning. The formula would be turned a bit more kid friendly in multiple toy franchises over the years, but Thundarr always held a special place in my heart.

This piece by artist Matt Smith is from the Toth Tribute Site, dedicated to Alex Toth who did tons of design work for Thundarr and dozens of other classic cartoons.
