Cosplay Friday: Reiko Hinomoto

As I sit here and contemplate a new work featuring female wrestlers as the leads, I cannot help but think about the PlayStation 2 game Rumble Roses. Reiko Hinomoto is the star and cover girl of the franchise as well as probably the cleanest cut of all their characters, despite how much skin is on display. She is cosplayed here by Minami Tachibana. Characters owned by Konami.

Gallur Gallery Challenge 1 Results

Last week, I shared the following picture of El Hijo Del Santo in battle and challenged the intrepid readers of this blog to write a paragraph summarizing the vents that caused this scene to occur. I had several fun and amusing responses to this challenge on social media, but sadly only one person followed the rules and posted to the site itself, one Mr. Jeff Deischer. I have read some of Jeff's fiction and he is no slouch at the writing game, so it is no surprise he gave such a great response:

The Son of the Saint, using his God-given ability to sense evil, arrives just in time to prevent the vampire lord Nocturno from killing a trespasser, the beautiful and buxom Misty Callahan, an amateur spelunker from north of the border who stumbled upon the sinister being’s lair while in search of a good cave.

Quick, simple and to the point with the action. I went a slightly different route, but you can see the crosslines in each of our tales, I suspect.

The masked criminal madman Dr. Furioso used his evil genius to kidnap students of the University of Mexico for his mad experiments in human genetic engineering. His actions do not go unnoticed as the heroic protector of the city, El Hijo Del Santo, uses his masterful detective and lucha skills to track down the mad criminal, but not before he kidnaps another young couple from the university. Isabel can only watch as her lover Marcelo is transformed by the mad doctor into a subhuman creature at the beck and call of only Furioso. Isabel tries to escape, but Marcelo is sent to catch her, only for the Son of the Saint to rush to the rescue!

What's Up for August 19, 2015

This was meant to go up much earlier but I apparently forgot to slip it out of draft mode while writing up promotions for the Lightweight Kickstarter and putting time into some actual fiction.

I have had a lot of reading time of late thanks to the whole “recovering from surgery” bit and I have been using them to the best of my ability. I have been consuming a collection of some of the best comic book westerns ever written, reading a biography of one of my favorite wrestlers and catching up on past movies and games in the time in between.

The first forty slots of The Wrestling Blog Top 100 Wrestlers are now up at the site with the remaining 60 stars left to be revealed in picks through the end of the month. But my contributions in the Top 100 focus on three talents, the pictured Erick Rowan, Chikara Grand Champion Icarus and my top pick revealed so far: ROH standout Tommaso Ciampa.

Writer's Update for February 17, 2015

Work continues apace on Lightweight chapter 11. The new format of the series will feature three chapters per book on a quarterly pace, so it will be awhile for the next book to be ready. Plans are still in place to fund this year’s worth of books on Kickstarter starting around April. But first I plan to finish chapter 11 and at least a major part of chapter 12 before that happens.

Much of the rest of my time has been spent setting up Pulpsploitation.com and readying that book for publication. I will have more Pulpsploitation in the works as well, but I have a few stories I owe Airship 27 to finish up before I start on those.

Plans for this week are to put more work into Lightweight followed by my long in gestation wrestling story for Airship 27. Once those wrap, I will probably head into a couple other short stories, but more on those later.

Beyond that, I have a Quadrant chapter on the edit table. It will head out in just a few weeks.

Today’s image is 1930s era wrestler Charley Fox, Cleveland’s wrestling cop, grappling an unnamed opponent. Sadly, I don’t go far enough afield in my upcoming tale to include him.
