Great Art: Thanos by Yildiray Cinar

I can be very critical of many of Marvel's decisions over the last few years, but one which I respect them for greatly is their use of Yildiray Cinar. Along with Mahmud Asrar, I first discovered him on the one-two punch of Jay Faerber's Noble Causes and Dynamo 5. He's only grown since then and remains a wickedly talented artist on books like Uncanny X-Men.

Best Character Ever 24: Thanos

As Avengers: Infinity War is now available to everyone to own, it seems Marvel's Dark Titan is a rather unsurprising choice for the first new Best Character Ever in nearly two years. But my connection with the character dates back way farther than that.

More specifically it dates back to the late 1980s when I first stumbled upon a copy of The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition 20: Book of the Dead (Stick to Zuras). I distinctly remember having to convince my mother the cover shot of characters' spirits rising from their graves was merely symbolic. But when I got it for the glorious cover price of $1.50, I knew I held gold in my hand.

It has been a strange couple weeks as I went through surgery and now recovery. I have had tons of reading time, viewing time, but mostly sleeping time. Great Art Extra: Greg Horn's Thanos

You can check out some great art posts everyday over at the Super Powered Fiction Tumblr, but sometimes I like featuring some of the great prints and art I have picked up over my time as a fan.

I first came across Greg Horn as the artist of James Hudnall’s ESPers, an amazing comic that delved into super powered beings in a world built on conspiracy theories. (And as mentioned before, an inspiration behind my own Second Life of D.B. Cooper stories) Horn drew the last two volumes of the book at Halloween Comics and Image Comics. While sadly none of his work on them are in print, I highly recommend anyone pick them up if you find them. They feature a great combination of story and art.

I met Greg at Wizard World Des Moines earlier this year. He seems to have tons of fun at his booth, aided by a couple other folks to keep the long lines constantly moving. While some of his art gets a bit too far into cheesecake territory for me, I could not resist a couple great pieces of cosmic Marvel by Mr. Horn.

Thanos combines the great visual style of Horn with a bit of the sex appeal, albeit it with Death of all folks. For more great work by Horn, go check out his official website.
