It's not too often that two comic legends get back together for an amazing too issue. But as part of Marvel's 80th anniversary initiative to bring back classic creative teams for new tales, Marvel has reunited long time mutant mastermind Chris Claremont with the always amazing Bill Sienkiewicz (whose name I can impressively spell from memory) to bring the world New Mutants: War Children.
This one looks like it is set during their classic run which gave us stories like the Demon Bear and the origin of Warlock. The new story has a description that is fairly vague outside of a mention of Darkchylde, Magik's evil alter ego. But with a creative team this legendary, I expect a great read in a couple months.

In 1988, Keith Giffen brought the world Invasion alongside Bill Mantlo, Todd MacFarlane and a host of inkers led by Dick Giordano. Over thirty years after that series concluded, Giffen now has a new series set in its aftermath, one carrying a familiar DC name.
The new series Inferior Five is not just set directly after that storyline, but also is set in the exact time of that story, early 1989. And while the new book looks like it might only have a limited connection to the classic comedy series of the same name, the previews give it a distinctive (and highly marketable) Stranger Things vibe. The new book also features a Jeff Lemire written and drawn Peacemaker back-up involving the Dominators, so it's a whole lot of classic DC goodness by some top tier creators.

Marvel continues to release great books by classic teams, or in this case, a classic book in a classic continuity by two creators not know for working together. Roger Stern wrote a legendary run on the Avengers which featured one of the best Masters of Evil stories ever, where they demolish the team and their mansion home. But now he's returning to that era alongside legendary Silver Surfer artist Ron Lim for the one-shot. (Sadly Lim does not provide the standard cover, though Patch Zircher does a fine job.)
Set directly after the aforementioned attack on Avengers Mansion, Loki arrives with a new source of powers to once again make the lives of our heroes pure misery. It's up to a broken team to unite to stop him. It sounds like an exciting challenge, and one featuring a classic Avengers line-up of the type comics don't bring anymore.
It looks like a fun September, but I truly hope Marvel takes the interest in these one-shots and their facsimile editions that older fans would like to see more of their favorite creators on their favorite characters.
